The Oak Siblings – 500 Years Side by Side
The oak has always held a special place in Christianssædeskoven. The damp, nutrient-rich soil is perfect for these ancient trees, and over the years the forest has been home to some truly impressive giants.
The largest was Adam, which fell in 1941 after more than 600 years. The trunk measured a full 7.2 metres in circumference, and the remains of this enormous tree still lie along Agernstien. Langetegen was also famous – an old oak tree that once stood in the schoolyard at Langet School.
The forest’s many ancient trees
On one of Andreas Karberg’s many walks through the forest, a surprise awaited him. He discovered two enormous oak trees standing close together, which turned out to be even larger than Langetegen. The two trees had apparently lived side by side for centuries – and inspired Andreas to name them after his own children.
The largest was named Albert, with a circumference of 6.20 metres. The other was named Alice, with a circumference of 5.90 metres. Both are estimated to be around 450–500 years old.
