## The Chinese Room – the ultimate luxury of its time 

In the 18th century, Chinese art and interior design were among the most exclusive items a manor house could possess. That is why Christianssæde was given its own Chinese Room, furnished with Chinese furniture and adorned with beautiful hand-painted silk wallpaper – a clear sign of the era’s fascination with the exotic and the distant.

The original silk wallpaper is now preserved at the **Design Museum Denmark**, where it is protected as an important part of our cultural heritage. At Christianssæde, you can instead admire a meticulously crafted, hand-painted replica, which gives an impression of what the room looked like more than 300 years ago.

## The Fascination of China

Portraits of Queen Anna Sophie Reventlow and her half-brother, Count Christian Ditlev Reventlow, also used to hang here – two figures whose fates were closely linked to both Christianssæde and the Danish royal family.
