Agnes’ House – Korsbæk in Køge

The yellow half‑timbered house is a well‑known backdrop from the beloved Danish TV series Matador. This is where Agnes Jensen lived — first as a maid and later as an independent seamstress. The house is one of the few locations outside the Valby studios that was used for outdoor filming. In the gateway hangs a sign clearly referencing Agnes’ business.

This is also where the police detective waits for Røde to be arrested. And where Herbert arrives with the proofing of his new book. And where Fede’s wife takes Knud with her to look for Aksel, who has fallen into the fire pond — even though there isn’t actually a fire pond anywhere nearby.

Køge as the perfect film location

Køge is the town that provided the most filming locations for Matador. Here, reality and fiction meet — and suddenly Køge becomes a little bit like Korsbæk.

Køge Church also became a memorable setting in the series: Erik Skjern was baptised here, Mr. Schwann was buried here, and Ellen Skjern married here. A bit further down Kirkestræde lies another churchyard, where Mr. Stein hides when he has to flee from the Germans. And down by Køge Å, under the white bridge, little Mr. Schwann stands reminiscing about better times at a point when he has become a debt collector.
