Kaj Munk – The Dream of the Castle
As a child, Kaj Munk lived just one kilometre from Christianssæde. From there, the future priest, poet and resistance fighter dreamt of one day buying the manor house for his parents. In his memoirs, he described how, one Whitsun Sunday, he cycled here with his mother and saw the imposing building standing there, waiting:
“There stood the uninhabited, stately castle, waiting for me to grow up and buy it for Mum and Dad.”
The Blue Room – A Tribute to Kaj Munk
Perhaps that is why Christianssæde is still popularly known as ‘the Castle’ on Lolland – even though it has never officially been a castle. Kaj Munk often visited here and, amongst other things, received awards for diligence from the county. The place left a lasting impression on him. It is also said that the inspiration for his famous poem *The Blue Anemone* came from a flower in the Christianssæde woods, which later accompanied him to Vedersø.
Today, therefore, The Blue Room bears his name. A tribute to the local boy whose dream of ‘The Castle’ was never forgotten.
